A parachute state of mind

Well well well (with Petsy's voice, of course) ;)

Would you believe me if I said that I did something kinda crazy today? Well, I did! Tamsin, Marlon and I signed up for one of the many activities you can do here in Nice. Since the school offered us a very generous discount, there wasn' even a second's hesitation. Only when I was putting on a life belt I started thinking about what I was about to do... PARACHUTING!

Or at least it was sort of like parachuting. We didn't jump off a plane or anything, though we were up in the air for sure. First we had to put on life belts and the parachute equipment which made all of us look really ridiculous. They fastened us to the parachute and hooked the parachute to the boat. Then it all happened very fast. At first I was walking on the ground as instructed and in the next moment I was suddenly ascending up up up in the air. I had both Tamsin and Marlon with me and got extremely pleased when I discovered that they are just as big fans of screaming their lungs out as I am. So we screamed at the top of our lungs like little girls on a ride in an amusement park (actually I screm a lot in amusement parks too). We were dropped in the water several times and a couple of times we were even dragged behind the boat like a dead weight. It was so much fun!

In the end of the parachute ride, the boat accelerated towards the shore and it honestly felt as if we were going to hit the rocky beach in the speed of sound and die, but as soon as the boat came to a quck stop, so did the parachute. And then the truly stomach-twisting experience began. We started descending really fast and I saw the water coming closer and closer every second and suddenly my feet broke the surface and I was overwhelmed by the salty water that got in to my mouth and nose and ears. So worth it though!

Afterwards the girls and I headed to the foot torture beach and were soon joined by three other girls from school and Nicolas. I went for a little swim with Marlon and we saw a lot of really small fish swimming right next to us. And though I knew that it was a really stupid question, I just had to ask "Are they dangerous?". Afterwards she was quoting me to both Tamsin and Nicolas, joke of the day!

I was just about to go up and tan for a bit, when I suddenly kind of half tripped - half gave up the foot torture. This happened right in front of Nicolas who was standing right there by the water. But it felt so unbelievably and extrmely good to sit down in the water so I didn't even bother go get up. I was just sitting there. Bet it looked... interesting. Man, did I not expect what was coming next! Nicolas asked me if I wanted to go on the "Fly fish". I hesitated a bit because I didn't have any more money with me but then he said it would be for free. Suddenly my feet weren't hurting anymore and I got up in record speed! We went to the litte water sports station again. Once more I got to put on a life belt and then we headed for the water. I must tell you that this was something completely different than the parachute! If the parachute gives you the possibility to have the greatest view of Nice and calmly enjoy the hight and the warm summer breeze, this attaction is the total opposite. Basically, you have to hold on for dear life and cross your legs real tight to not lose your underwear. Or the legs themselves, for that matter. Okay, I'll take it from the beginning. First of all we didn't go on the Fly fish because you have to be more people to do that. This was something else, a rubber triangle looking thing fitting two people and with handles for each person. When we grabbed on to it, the upper part of my body was on it and my legs were in the water.

And off we went. At first I thought that the speed wasn't so bad, it was actually amasing and super cool to go so fast behind the boat and even be able to talk a little to Nicolas. Well, that changed pretty soon. The guy in the boat picked up even more speed until we were going crazy fast and after that I was seriously beginning to suspect that he wanted us dead. He did these unbelievable turns and drowe the boat round and round and round until all of my body was in the water except for my hands which were still grasping on to the slippery handles with fading force. My plan was actually no to give up, I had decided to not let go, and amazingly enough I was surprisingly persistent. Until I suddenly felt my underwear crawling their way down my knees, that is. I crossed my legs and had no other choise but to let go! To my great satisfaction I noticed that Nicolas had left the "vehicle" before me. "Puh", I thought. "I'm not the first one to fall". When I had managed to put on my underwear and found Nicolas I said "Just so you know, the only reason why I let go is because I was about to drop my bikini, otherwise I wouldn't have done it" and his answer was "I actually dropped mine". HAHA! I guess you get my point - cross your legs and hold on for dear life and you'll manage JUST FINE!

We got soaked for a bit more and I even think I got a real workout in as well. It was truly tiring! My whole body felt exhausted afterwads! I thanked Nicolas and the crew of the water sports stand (they are all extremely good looking, MIGHT I ADD!!!) and tanned for a while with Tamsin after the others had to go home. I came home a while ago, ate with my hostess' mother (who is really old and I can't understand a word she's saying and she doesn't hear a word I'm sayng) and now I will click the "save and publish" button :)

Before I do, I just want to inform you that I will try and take my own computer with me to school tomorrow, use the WiFi and publish some pictures from the last few days. Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures from the parachute ride right now (damn, how will you believe me without picture proof?!) but I will get them from Tamsin and Marlon later :)

PS: For the person who sent an anonymous comment: I write in English to be able to reach more people :) Many of the people I meet here don't speak Swedish and I guess it wouldn't really work out if I wrote in French either since my vocabulary is extremely limited right now XD
