From ghetto to pretto
Now I have had some time to get used to my new surroundings and I must say I am enjoying myself to the fullest. Let's make a little comparison between the place I lived a week ago and the place I live now...
First of all, now I can walk safely alone in the street no matter what hour. I must say I have been extremely lucky to have gotten away with the forty minute walks I took in the middle of the night to come home to the host family. Considering that it went on for four weeks, I have truly had a great amount of luck because nothing bad has happened! That apartment is located in the north-east of Nice, not such a safe area and pretty far from everything.
Which leads us to the next thing - I live so close to everything now! It only takes me ten to fifteen minutes to go to school now and only five minutes to get to the beach! Something that used to take thirty and fourty-five, respectively.
Though living with a host family had a lot of advantages - for example that they fed me and were really nice and great people - I really really REALLY enjoy living on my own! I have taken on the role as the "perfect hostess" à la Bree van der Kamp in Desperate Housewives, you could say. I just LOVE bringing my friends to the apartment, feeding them and making tasty coctails! It's so much fun! A few days ago I invited Matilda, Frida, Nicola and my most recently acquired friend Natasha (who is also my neighbour) for Mojitos à la Milena and a Coffee-Baileys drink that I invented. I felt so proud when I saw that they likes it! And yesterday I made them French toast! :D
Well well, I can just go on and on about the advantages of the new place. So I will :) Except for the proximity to all things I need, the neighbourhood is also very very nice. From having to watch out for the freshly produced steaming dog poo piles that could appear out of nowhere and attach me when I walked to or from the host family's place, I have changed the scene completely. Now there are fancy stores lining the streets - like Gucci, Dolce and Gabbana, Chanel and Dior - and drag my eyes from the ground. And trees. Really cute trees with green leaves. My street is actually one of the very few in Nice that has trees!
And, one of the best things... There is a rooftop terrasse! No one except for the people who live in the building can go there so basically I can be alone up there. Which means that I can do some topless tanning ;D There are loung-chairs and everything up there! Yesterday Natasha and I sat there and painted our nails and I got the idea to make us some coctails. I just mixed together some orange juice with the rum I had left from earlier. Oh, it was not good at all... Uuuuh! But I like the idea, having drinks on the roof! :D Not bad at all ;)
Here come some pictures :)
That sofa of mine is pretty popular :) LOVES IT!
First day at the new place. It took me only half an hour to unpack my two suitcases AND hang all the clothes in the closet AND arrange all other stuff. That's how excited I was about the move :D
PS: It's not really pretto here. I just thought about the song "From zero to hero" in Disney's Hercules and wanted to come up with an equivalent :D
